Calgary Flames sign Hunter Brzustewicz to entry-level contract

Brzustewicz currently plays for the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and has tallied a whopping 12 goals and 73 assists for 85 points in 62 games. Brzustewicz ranks first on the Rangers in assists and is tied for second in points, he ranks first leaguewide in assists and second in the OHL for points by a defenseman, trailing 2024 top prospect Zayne Parekh by just two points.

The 19-year-old has become one of the top prospects in the Flames’ system quickly since being acquired from Vancouver. Brzustewicz had 96 assists and 111 points in 66 games in his U-16 season, earning him a spot on the prestigious USA Hockey National Team Development Program roster for 2020-21. The then-16-year-old missed the rest of his first season after blowing out his shoulder in practice, requiring surgery. Instead of joining the University of Michigan Wolverines where he had recently committed, Brzustewicz made the jump to the OHL and committed to playing for Kitchener. During his OHL rookie campaign, Brzustewicz registered 51 assists and 57 points in 68 games, he added four points in 9 OHL playoff contests.

Kitchener ranks fourth in the Western Conference with a 40-21-2-0 record and 82 points through 63 games. With just a handful of games remaining in the OHL and Candian Hockey League (CHL) as a whole, Kitchener and the rest of the league look to gear up for the 2024 playoffs en route to the 2024 DOW Memorial Cup in Saginaw, Michigan.
