The NHL's Department of Player Safety sees and hears all, however, and it punished DeBrusk on Tuesday.
The league announced Tuesday afternoon that DeBrusk has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowed per the collective bargaining agreement between league owners and the players, for his hit. All fine money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
According to SB Nation's Lighthouse Hockey, Mayfield was shaken up following the incident but finished the contest and played during the overtime period.
Game 3 is Thursday night in Long Island.
